Hey—It's Tim.
First things first.
Thank you everyone who emailed me telling me I’d forgotten to change the subject line on yesterday’s email.
It was a long weekend, and I was writing on the tail-end of a three day workshop.
More embarrassingly it went out with the subject line “New post”.
And it did annoyingly well…

47% open rate. wtf… swear sometimes, I just don’t get it.
New Penfriend homepage in “wet paint” mode.

I love web design in my head. Then I start and suddenly yellow-pages ads sound… appealing.
I’m shipping anyway. If you hit the site today, expect scaffolding. I’ll break it down on Front-End Friday.
Wet paint on the homepage
We’ve shipped a pile of new Penfriend stuff and more is coming.
That means the homepage has to earn its keep, not just look clever.
Old way: polish in Figma for six weeks.
New way: ship the hero, stack proof, add clarity, iterate daily.
Let me just offend all the web-designers.

Homepages are never “done.” They’re living sales pages with change logs.
If yours isn’t changing, it’s not learning.
If it’s not learning, it’s not selling.
This is the battle I have to win every time I go to make changes.
It’s a process. It’s never ending. And that’s the point.
It’s not supposed to be finished…
Proof that compounds

Not even 1/3rd of them. There are so many now.
Tiny joy today: watching the testimonial wall grow.
It’s my favorite part of the homepage because it does the most selling—
and it sells me on my own work.
I check that wall when motivation dips.
Seeing it grow makes me want to design more - and ship faster.
