I will make your content strategy for free. Kinda...

No idea what to write? I have a trade in mind. You win of course.

Day 272/100

Hey—It's Tim.

One of the most common questions I get about Penfriend is

I don’t know what we should be writing about…

I know a lot of you do, but it’s something we get.

I would love to tell every single one of you exactly what to write, but I don’t stretch that way. So, we built a competitor gap analysis feature for Penfriend. Because that is where I would start.

And in typical fashion, I made the one I want to exist because the others are shit.

Here's the problem with every competitor analysis tool:

They vomit a list of random pages your "competitors" wrote.

No context.
No strategy.
No "does this actually fit what I'm trying to do?"

Just: "These 47 sites wrote about blockchain. You should too!"

Cool. My SaaS is accounting software. Why would I write about blockchain?

So I built the one I actually wanted:

You give me:

  • Your website

  • The topic you're writing about

I give you:

  • Priority topics (write these first - they fit your existing content)

  • Adjacent topics (natural extensions of what you already cover)

  • Consider topics (future opportunities, benchmarks, angles you're missing)

Not random. Strategic.

It analyzes your existing URLs, finds the gaps your competitors are covering, and tells you exactly what angles you're missing.

The catch:

It's early. It's messy. It needs more testing.

Which is where you come in.

The offer:

Reply to this email with:

  1. Your website URL

  2. The topic you want to write about

I'll run it through our competitor gap analysis.

And I'll send you back:

  • Priority topics (write these first)

  • Adjacent topics (natural extensions)

  • Consider topics (future opportunities)

Takes me 5 minutes (we built it to run fast… I’m the slow part of this). You get a full content roadmap for that topic.

Free.

What I need from you:

Feedback. And some nice words. :D

Tell me:

  • Was this useful?

  • What would make it better?

  • Would you pay for this as a feature?

  • What's confusing about the output?

That's the deal.

You get free strategy.
I get feedback on whether this is worth shipping in Wave 3.

Sound good?

Reply with:

  • Website: [your URL]

  • Topic: [what you want to write about]

I'll send you the analysis this week.

First 30 replies get priority (I'm doing these manually and I value my sanity).

Let's go.

Same brain, different platforms: X, Threads, LinkedIn.

P.S. Why I'm doing this manually:
Because the feature works, but I don't know if the Priority/Adjacent/Consider breakdown makes sense to you.

The only way to find out: run it for 30 people and see what they say.

If you all say "holy shit, this is exactly what I needed" → I'll ship it in Wave 3.

If you all say "this is confusing" → back to the drawing board.

P.P.S. Example of what you'll get:

Website: equals.com (SaaS metrics tool)
Topic: "calculate arr"

Priority (Write These First):

  • How To Calculate Arr From Mrr

  • Arr Calculation For Usage Based Pricing

Adjacent (Natural Extensions):

  • Revenue Retention Rate Calculation Guide

  • Forecast Arr Growth Using Cohort Analysis

Consider (Future Opportunities):

  • Arr Benchmarks For Your Saas Industry

  • Currency Conversion Impact On Arr Reporting

You Already Have:

  • 31 URLs covering calculate arr basics

That's the level of breakdown you're getting.

Reply if you want in.
