Only 7.94 % of my emails feel like me

Today’s one of them - A letter to earning authenticity one cringe draft at a time.

Day 126/100

Hey—It's Tim.

I went for a run this morning.

Well, actually, I jogged for a bit and walked when I thought no one was looking, which is pretty easy to do in the mountains.

Anyway, the point is: I was thinking about authenticity.

Specifically, what's mine and what's yours?

And how do we even know?

Authenticity is weird.

You can’t fake it.
Believe me, I've tried.
I write to you daily.

Every day, I hit send and wonder, "Was this really mine?"

Today is newsletter 126. I counted.
How many have felt completely, unmistakably "Tim"?

Ten. Maybe.

That's 7.94% for those nerdy enough to care.
(I am one of those nerds. Otherwise, how would I know?)

If I’m being kind - and God knows, kindness isn’t exactly my strongest trait - almost 8% isn’t terrible.

It’s progress. It’s a start.

Here's the uncomfortable truth:

You earn authenticity through a lot of content that feels like it belongs to someone else.

It's a rite of passage-publishing stuff that makes you cringe, sigh, and say,

"this isn't quite it."

But you do it anyway.

Robots, humans, and the uncomfortable in-between.

In this shiny new age, where robots write half our words, I'm part of that problem - I built Penfriend, after all.

Yet every day, I ask myself: what's truly human?

I think it comes down to one thing:

Stubbornly creating until something feels unmistakably yours.

That’s rare. That’s powerful.

People notice. People reward it.

Here’s where Penfriend comes in.

This is precisely why I’m currently obsessing over the new outline creation and editor in Penny.

That does say to quote Tim… ooh I wonder what that means.

Because most tools push you toward becoming a copycat…

Fitting perfectly into Google's tidy boxes.
It works. (Frustratingly well, actually.)

But damn, it's boring.

My goal is different.

Yes, we'll highlight what's necessary, those Google-friendly bits everyone needs.

But more importantly, we’ll pinpoint the gaps:

It’s literally telling me the questions people are asking + topics no one is covering + what I’m great at. And then where in the blog place it. (Also, I’m aware it says 124% total. WIP friends)

These are spots desperately craving your voice, your opinion, your signature style.

Maybe the whole article won't scream "YOU." But that one part, where you’re undeniably great, where you’re an absolute gangster, that needs to feel yours.

Authentically, unmistakably yours.

That’s my mission.

To give you space to write something that feels real.

See you tomorrow.

P.S. This one felt like mine. Maybe its 8% now.
