Day 255/100

Hey—It's Tim.

It's Halloween.

Which means it's the perfect day to share your most terrifying content disaster.

You know the one.

The blog that went live with the wrong client's name. The email that went to 40,000 people instead of 40. The article that ranked #1... for your competitor's brand name.

I want to hear it.

And I'm going to publish the best ones on the Penfriend blog.

You get a DR56 backlink. I get nightmares. Everyone wins.

But first: A sneak peek at next week

Before I scare you, let me excite you.

Next week we're dropping some stuff we've been building in secret for the last 8 months.

Here are two of my favorites to make the content more personal.
You know I’m all about making the content yours, so here are 2 features to make that much faster.

#1 Audience + Location changing

We got a lot of feedback asking to pre-load the audience before writing the content. This way you can tell Penfriend, I’m writing THIS, for THESE PEOPLE, in THIS LOCATION.

And now you have something that’s much closer to what you want to make, a lot faster.

What could be better than that? Oh yeah, Penny will suggest audiences for you based on your topic. We pull this from data of actual people search for your topic when you write it in. These are real demographics looking for the thing you’re about to write about.

#2 Penny’s recommendations 2.0

In the first version of Penfriend we had “Penny’s recommendations”.
At the end of each section, you’d get a note saying what the can’t do as well as what you, the human, could do.

Essentially it was our way of pointing you toward how to best use your time editing the article.

We’ve had a few smaller updates to that feature over the last year, but the newest one is the best. And my favourite.

Penny will now, in a side bar, tell you how to improve your sentences for readability, how to better format your content, where to put your keywords, where to cite certain research, and much much much more.

It’s my favourite part of the VIBE score update coming next week.

If you want this the second it drops on Monday. It’s coming to all paid plans.

Now for the scary part

Here's what I want from you:

Send me your spookiest content disaster story.

I want the full horror show:

  • What went wrong?

  • How did you find out?

  • What was the fallout?

  • How did you fix it (or did you)?

The format:

Keep it to 200-300 words. Make it a story (not just "I made a typo"). Give me the fear. The panic. The recovery.

What you get:

If I publish your story, you get:

  • A DR56 backlink to your site

  • Credit with your name + title

  • A feature in our "Content Nightmares" Halloween collection

  • Eternal glory (or shame, depending how you look at it)

How to send it:

Reply to this email with:

  • Your story (200-300 words)

  • Your name + title

  • The URL you want the backlink to point to

Deadline: Sunday, November 3rd at midnight

I'll publish the collection next week.
Reply with your horror story. Get your backlink.

See you tomorrow.

Same brain, different platforms: X, Threads, LinkedIn.

P.S. When I did this last year someone said about deleting a clients site 2 days after launch day…

Can you beat that?
