Your users forgot about your launch (here's why)

The psychological principle behind memorable product announcements...

Happy Saturday.

Strategy Saturday. Straturday? I’m trying it on. I like it so far.

Currently writing this from my couch on a very lazy Saturday, watching my Roomba completely forget it already cleaned under my desk three times today. Which, ironically, is exactly what inspired today's deep dive into memory and product launches...

You see, last week we launched Echo @Penfriend - our new tone-matching feature that helps you sound more like... well, you. And while the launch was exciting (🎉), it got me thinking about a persistent problem we all face:

People forget about new features. Fast.

Like, "what did I have for breakfast?" fast.

But here's the thing - this isn't a user problem. It's a launch strategy problem. And there's actual science behind fixing it.

Enter: Spaced Repetition, the psychological principle that helps our brains retain new information through strategically timed reminders. It's the same concept that helps you learn a language or master a skill, and it turns out, and I reckon, it’s perfect for product launches.

Here's the exact post-launch reminder schedule for Echo, based on the science of memory retention:

Launch Day (The Big Bang 💥):

  • Feature announcement email: "Meet Echo: Your AI Just Learned Your Voice"

  • In-app modal for active users

  • Social posts with before/after examples

  • Live demo webinar announcement

Day 2 (The Quick Reminder 🧠):

  • Follow-up email to non-openers: "Still writing in multiple voices? Echo changes that"

  • In-app tooltip for users who haven't tried Echo

  • Share first user success story (shoutout to Sarah who used Echo to write an entire 20 blog cluster in her brand voice!)

Day 7 (The Social Proof Push 📊):

  • Email showcasing usage stats: "500+ writers have found their voice with Echo"

  • Social carousel breaking down top 3 use cases from us and users

  • Highlight showing Echo's time-saving metrics

Day 14 (The Education Drive 🎓):

  • Release 3-minute tutorial video: "Echo Mastery in 180 Seconds"

  • Email featuring pro tips from power users

  • In-app achievement unlock for first Echo use (still figuring this one out. Klaviyo is brutal to me…)

Day 30 (The Results Share 📈):

  • Case study email: "How PERSON's team cut content review time by 62% with Echo" (You wanna be this person? Lemme know)

  • Community spotlight featuring creative Echo uses

Day 60 (The FOMO Fix 💌):

  • "What you missed" campaign for non-users

  • Share before/after ROI metrics

The key is varying the message and medium while maintaining consistent touchpoints. I’m not just reminding people Echo exists - I’m showing them new ways to use it, sharing success stories, and building FOMO through social proof. That’s the plan.

This is a pretty easy template to modify for yourself. It’s something I’m testing and I’ll be sure to let you all know how it goes.

I have a full templated version of this. Reply to the email with SPACE🌌 and I’ll send it over. Or your favorite space fact, I love space facts.

💡 The 3-Minute Post Experiment

You know those ideas that sit in your drafts forever because they're "not ready"? Here's your weekend challenge:

Set a timer for 3 minutes. Write one tiny, experimental post. A quick story, hot take, or random insight. Share it without endless editing. Raw, unfiltered content energy.

Think of it like throwing spaghetti at the wall - if it sticks, you've found something worth expanding. If not? You only spent 3 minutes on it.

Perfect is the enemy of published.

Have a great weekend.
